chapters & chapter summaries-
chapter one- Chapter one is mainly about Katniss and the day of the Reaping. This chapter takes place in the main characters District, District Twelve. Katniss , her mom ,and her sister Prim live in District Twelve, which is a hard place to live and survive in. Ever since Katniss's dad died in the coal mines, she has had to take care of her mom and sister. She goes hunting with her friend Gale and then goes and trades the things she catches for bread and other items. On the day of the Reaping Katniss did her daily routine and then went home and got ready. When she got to the Reaping they anonced who would be in the Hunger games and the girl was Primerose Everdeen, Katniss's sister.
chapter two- In chapter two Katniss does not want to let Prim her twelve- year- old sister take place in the Hunger Games so she takes her place. When they call out who was chosen for the boy, they read out Peeta Mellark. Katniss rememberd who Peeta was, he was the boy who gave her bread when she was about to die in the cold rain, Peeta purposley burnt bread for katniss and then his mom got mad because he burnt bread and hit him. He had saved her from starvation and know she was suposed to kill him. The ceremony ends and they join the Hunger Games and leave their families.
chapter three- in chapter three Katniss and Peeta are put in their rooms in the capitol, freinds and family can visit them. first Peeta's dad came to visit Katniss, and he brought her cookies from the bakery he works at. They didn't talk much because he wasnt a talkative man. The next visiter was Madge, the mayor's daughter. She gave Katniss a pin with a Mocking Jay catching an arrow in side of a circle. madge makes katniss promise she will where it dureing the hunger games. her last visiter is gale, they talk about what weapons the can use or how the hungere games would be. then the gaurd come's in to tell gale he has to leave but he dosent want to she tells him goodbye and then her and peeta get on a train. they get there rooms and katniss gets ready for dinner.there dinner is a seven corse meal , as katniss eats she thinks about how she has never had so much food. the meal is over and they find there mentor,haymith vomiting because he is drunk. they both carry him to his cabin and peeta takes care of it from there.
chapter four- chapter four describes how katniss thinks that peeta is being nice to haymitch beacause he wants to be his favorite, so she decides to ignore him and not let him get to her. she goes to bed and is awakend by effie trinkeets annoyingness. thwen she goes and eats breakfast where her mentor is drunk and when peeta breaks the glass the spirit/liqure is in haymith punches him in the jaw then katniss pulls out her nife and stabs it in to the table. haymith is impressed and promises to be sober enough to help them as long as they listen. this chapter also goes back in time to where katniss learned to hunt and how she would try to get meat on the table everyday.
chapter five- in chapter five the train that katniss and peeta are in arive's to the capitol. as they look outside there window they see nice cars, weirdly dressed people and nice scenery. when they get off the train they go and meet their stylist's. the stylist are all dresed funky and different. they get katniss prepared for her main stylist cinna to come. when cinna comes he tells katniss about the theme of the cerimony, all districts must where the theme of there district. which for katniss is coal miners. when he tells her this she is sure she will be humilliated. cinna tells her that his idea is that they wear a black body suits and a cap that they light on fire, he says that every one would remember her as katniss the girl who was on fire. so they get dressed and climb on to a chariot and ride in to the arena. katniss and peeta get alot of aplause and the whole crowd love's there costumes. there chariot rides through the city circle untill they reach the presidents mansion. the president gives a speech , but dureing the entiere speech people are watchingthere glowing capes.
Character Development- This is the opening to the book and so there hasn't been any character development so instead I'm just going to explain what the characters are like. Katniss- Katniss is angry at everyone except for her sister and Gale, she is also independent. Gale- Gale is angry at the capitol and a hard worker Peeta- We don't knew if Peeta is sneaky and trying to trick Katniss or if he is looking out for Katniss and has here best intrest. No one else has had enough time to show about themselves.
